W = 7
L = 2W + 3
2W + 2L = 2W + 4W + 6 = P = 48
6W + 6 = 48
6W = 42
W = 7

Let L = length of rectangle
Let W = width of rectangle
L = 2W + 3
There's your first equation.
You know that when you find a perimeter, you add the length of all sides right?
P = W + W + L + L
There are two W's so make that 2W and there are two L's so make that 2L.
P = 2W + 2L
There's your second eqation.
Since you know that the value of L is 2W + 3, plug that into the L spot in the second equation. You also already know the perimeter, so plug that in also.
48 = 2W + 2(2W + 3)
48 = 2W + 4W + 6
48 = 6W + 6
42 = 6W
7 = W
You know now that the width is 7 feet. You did not ask to find the length, but just in case you need it...
L = 2W + 3
L = 2(7) + 3
L = 14 + 3
L = 17
The length is 17 feet.

Perimeter Formula
P = 2L + 2W
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
48 = 2(2w + 3) + 2w
48 = 4w + 6 + 2w
The distributive Property
48 = 6w + 6
Collecting like terms
48 = 6w + 6
-6 -6
Subtracting -6 from both sides
42 = 6w
42/6 = 6w/6
Dividing 6 from both sides
7 = w
The width is seven (7) feet
Insert x value (7) into the perimeter formula
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Proof
P= 2(2w + 3) + 2w
48 = 2[2(7) + 3] + 2(7)
48 = 2[14 + 3] + 14
48 = 2[17] + 14
48 = 34 + 14
48 = 48
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
The answer is
Width equals seven (7) feet

Oops the first guy missed a step
Length = 2W + 3 = L
Perimeter = 2(w +L) = 48
substituting w for L in the second equation yield
2(w + 2w + 3 ) = 48
Solving for w , w = (48-6)/6
w = 7

l = 2w + 3
P = 2(l + w)
48 = 2((2w + 3) + w)
48 = 2(2w + 3 + w)
48 = 2(3w + 3)
48 = 6(w + 3)
8 = w + 1
w = 7
l = 2(7) + 3 = 14 + 3 = 17

Width = x, then Length = 2x + 3, so P = (x) + (x) + (2x +3) + (2x + 3) = 6x + 6 = 48. So 6x = 42. So x = 7.

since perimeter is 48.thus the thust the sum of all sides is 48 ie
2l+2w=48;
ie l+w=24........................................(A)
now l=2w+3
putting value of l in (A)
2w+w+3=24
ie 3w=21
ie w=7
where w=width
l=length
therefore the Width of the rectangle is "7"
