My girlfriend of six months says she wants a break. She told me that she doesn't want to see other people at all. She told me she still loves me and still wants to see me. But she doesn't want to be in a relationship at the moment. She starts college soon. Like I said she doesn't want to date anyone else or "see" anyone else and she still wants to see me, like hang out and stuff but doesn't want a relationship and wants time to think. Keep in mind that everything has been great up until this. I'm a little confused, because I thought, in my expierences, that a break ment going out trying to find someone new. Can anyone please give me their opion to try and help....Thanks

Hello there. First of all, I'm going to say that perhaps you answered your own question when you said: "...[she ] doesn't want a relationship and wants time to think." It could mean just that. She is going to college soon, and having a relationship at the same time may be too much. I don't know if the college is long distance or not, but maybe it will be better for the two of you to take a break. I understand completely how you feel though. Don't be hasty to jump to negative conclusions either, just see where it goes.

Ive said this to an ex before, it could mean either 2 things, or both - usually a break is because someone doesnt want to official have a boyfriend or girlfriend, therefore if by chance they do come across someone else (not intentionally - just out & about) they have nothing really holding them back & they can say to their present boyfriend "well we were on a break so i wasnt cheating", which is complete b.s., it could also mean - which was my case - that we spent EVERY day together, from when we woke up to went to bed with the exception of when we were at work & i just needed a few days to my self, to have ME time, didnt mean i didnt like to spend time w/him i just wanted the chance to miss him - so im not sure what ur girl things, maybe you should ask her to be more specific so you can protect yourself from getting hurt in the long run - good luck

Sorry to hear that, but she is giving you a soft boot if she is going to college. She doesn't know how to break up with you without hurting your feelings. This might be the only solution she see's if the both of you are not attending the same school. She won't have a relationship with a male companion till she learns the routine on campus and meeting new friends. But, its going to happen when she attends a party event. Six months, she might think also that you are not the one for her. Its her boot to your heart...take care brother.

I'm staring at acquaintances correct now, Hannah :) destroy clearly means that she desires you to back off until she will get stuff discovered, however she still wishes to protection of the relationship. To be certain, i'd talk to her and ask what her definition of a ruin entails. For instance, are you able so far other folks in the course of the smash, or not? Things like that. Making things clear before the spoil will make certain an less difficult 'fix' later. Briefly, she needs you to back off, supply her space, and do not press her. Simply reside your possess existence except she comes back around, however obviously talk to her about what she wishes in a smash in order that neither of you come to be getting hurt.

I'm looking Friends proper now, Hannah :) Break practically implies that she wishes you to back down till she will get stuff discovered, however she nonetheless wishes to safety of the connection. To be certain, I could speak to her and ask what her definition of a holiday involves. For illustration, are you equipped to this point different men and women throughout the holiday, or now not? Things like that. Making matters transparent earlier than the holiday will be certain an less difficult 'repair' later. In brief, she wishes you to back down, supply her house, and do not press her. Just are living your possess existence till she comes again round, however most likely speak to her approximately what she wishes in a holiday in order that neither of you become getting harm.

She wants to hang out with you and stuff? What stuff is that? How can you just hang out with someone you care about and love and not be with them? The break thing is a joke. Taking a break gives them options that only a single person can have. My advice to you is to ask her if it is okay for YOU to see other people. If she says yes, you have a problem. If she says no, then there is room for optimism. Just get your doubts settled ASAP and talk it out.

Either she's letting you go the easy way or she's being very responsible to not hurt your feelings while she explores her options. Be happy that she's not staying with you while she dates others because regardless of what she says it's probably going to happen. Enjoy your time without her and date as well. If your relationship is meant to be it will be that much better after you've both explored a little.

Sounds like she has got a lot going on and needs all of here cache memory to process the whole school thing/change of life.

She may not be looking to find anyone new, or be trying to get away from you, but if you dont give her the space she needs, she will be looking for someone new so hard as it may seem, honour her request.

If she needs a break then something isnt right, any one who says they need a break from a relationship of any kind is not being totally honest with themselves........if a relationship is ok then you dont need a break and if you need a break then why not just finish it altogether instead of leaving someone with the hope of gettin back together

I hate to say this, mate, but that sounds like a dumping. It is a known well known trick when someone doesn't have the guts to come out and say "we're finished."

Anyway you need to talk to your (ex-)girlfriend and ascertain her exact intentions, because if you leave it as it is then, trust me, she will find someone else at college while you are stuck pining after her not seeing anyone else.

The alternative is that she genuinely isn't sure about the relationship in which case (if she can't make up her mind) then it is beholden on you to either (a) win her back or (b) dump her and thus unambiguously end it.
