Some things require more toasting, like a bagel or a piece of frozen bread. If you are getting burnt toast, and you don't want that, change the setting.

Sounds strange as heck, but some people LIKE their toast burnt. I worked with a couple of people like that in California (they also liked microwave popcorn burnt).

Obviously they don't. Some breads are very dense and take a long time to toast. Others use the higher setting for frozen breads.

That setting is for bread that is really thick, like the kind of bread you would get a bakery, it's also for Bagels.
