I believe Journalist are obligated to help better society. The problem is that most journalist these days are taking up causes that are aimed towards certain kind of stereotypes. I believe that if journalist such as the "dead" Abby took on issues such as consumer protection or equality there advice would be received. What right though does Abby have "narcing" on her readers? None! Unless the advice seeker ask "how best would I kill" or "what part of America should I terrorize?" In our society(America) child porn is frown upon because we were conditioned to think this way. But look at how many American business men have traveled to Thailand to "bang" a child. Abby I believe targets the wrong people. Set an example by shinning the light on the real pornographers.

Basically, she is in a public service position and I think she felt an obligation to turn in someone she thought might be harmful to the public. If he wanted anonymous, confidential help with no fear of repercussions - he should have gone to a private therapist for help with his pedophilia. And for those arguing about the cost of private therapy . . . every state has mental health treatment available for people who truly can't afford it or who are without insurance. As a parent, I'm glad she did it. I have zero tolerance for child molesters as the recidivism rate (rate of repeat offenses) is quite high, even with treatment.

And BRYAN, this guy had child porn in his home. How many of you guys who like your gf to dress up in a school uniform also keep kiddie porn?? I'm guessing next to none.

Of course. She's not a therapist and her questions certainly do not constitute therapy sessions.

If she has information about a crime, why shouldn't she turn them in? If she hadn't and the man had molested a child, then she would catch the wrath of parents and probably not be able to live with herself.

Law abiding citizens have a duty to report wrong doing. Apathy doesn't make for a peaceful nation but rather a dangerous nation.

Absolutely. Men who have fantasies about having sex with young girls will one day attempt to do that very thing. Either he was making it up to see what Abby would say or he was really dumb. That would be the kind of thing you would talk to a shrink about, not a dead newspaper columnist.

Yes she should have. I would have too. She is not a priest or lawyer bound by confidentiality. If a citizen has knowledge of a crime, they are duty bound to report it.
