Up. My wife and I balance out. I raise it when I have to go. She lowers it when she has to go.

I prefer to put down not only the seat but also the cover. Some years ago, we found a drowned mouse in our stool when we came back from a trip. I have no fondness for mice, but think it was terrible that he got in there, and obviously died a horrid lingering death, which I don't like.
My wife leaves the seat down, but leaves the cover up.
I am going to be totallly honest about this seat up/down thing.
American women are horribly selfish and self-centered, or this feminist nonsense would never have made the news.
Anyone who has no greater worry than whether she might have to reach down and change the toilet seats, because she shares living quarters with a person who has different toilet needs, is really living a pampered life.
Several billion women in the world don't have this problem, because they don't have flush stools. And large numbers worry about more important things, such as food for therir babies, or their kids getting blown up on the way to school (i.e. -- Israel).
And, this correlates closely with the fact that the g reatest female complaint among American women 28-35 is THEY CAN'T FIND ANYONE WHO WILL MARRY THEM. Duh!

I'm a girl and I ALWAYS leave the toilet seat up. Years of living with men has taught me that they cant be trusted not to pee on the seat if you leave it down.

I leave it wherever it is when I'm done. If I have to pick it up, why shouldn't she put it down? Whatever happened to equality of the sexes? Hmmmmm?????? You don't like it when it affects YOU, do you? I did for a while -- until she complained that I was putting the seat AND the lid down.

Always put the seat AND the lid down. No exceptions. Anything else is just wrong.

DOWN - because you never know when it is going to be YOU that has to to use it in the middle of the night. Sitting down and falling a*s*s first into that chilly water is not fun at all, especially when you are half-asleep.

when urinating, i put it up. when i'm done, i wipe the edges with tissue paper and then put the seat and cover down and flush.
