If you are concerned that the baby recieve all natural foods then why not just mush up a banana and feed the baby that? No additives or preservatives required.

I can't remeber if there is any sugar in Gerber's banana or if it's 100% natural. But I used to take half a banana and mash it up. If it needed thinning down for the baby, I added breastmilk or formula in the early months. As my babies got older, I added fruit juices instead of milks. Then I would start to leave lumps in it and omit the juice and milk. This way I knew what I was feeding my babies was natural & 100%!!!
You can make your own baby food very easly with a blender or food processor and a mesh strainer. Just use fresh natural ingredients.

I believe if you are talking about the jars of just Gerber Bananas baby food, then it is just bananas and water. Read the labels on the back and it will list the ingredients.

i'd think there has to be something added to it to keep it from turning that brown color that banana's turn. But its got to be 100% natural. Gerber prides itself on that. If anything its like a lemon juice or something. Read the jar. All ingredients MUST be listed on the label.

If nutrition is your main concern, consider making your own, it's quick and efficient, you only need fresh fruit and veggies and a blender or food processor.
Gerber and Heinz replace real food with water and thickening agents in many of their products for children over six months of age. Such adulterated products are nutritionally inferior to products made with more fruits and vegetables.
The single-ingredients foods made by all the companies differ only modestly as a result of adding somewhat different amounts of water. However, Gerber and Heinz add substantial amounts of water and thickening agents (flours and chemically modified starches) to more than half of their twenty-five most popular fruits, mixed and creamed vegetables, desserts, and dinners for babies over six months (second- and third-stage foods).

the cheapest way to feed your child bananas is to buy them fresh, mash them, or put them thru a food processor or blender, put them in ice cube trays freeze, you will have months of food from one bunch of bananas. Same goes for all baby food, its much cheaper to make your own, you know exactly what is going into your child's body and it only takes an hour or so to make months worth of food for your child. its totally worth it, money and nutrition wise.

The only thing they add to it is citric acid (to keep it from turning brown).
