thinking too much is not a problem. your brain will not explode.I have found that exploring bad memories, really thinking about them then writing them down just for your own use. is one way to get rid of them. You do not have to show anyone and you don't have to worry about grammar.

It's often said you should let go of the past for your own good. I would'nt think it's good to live on memories and regrets of the past. You should learn from your mistakes and perhaps remember them so that you don't fall in the same mistakes again but move on. To take you mind of the past try to distract yourself doing different things and going out. I hope this is helpful.

Thinking by itself is not a problem...obviously. However, if you are having problems due to thinking about things to much or having difficulty concentrating because of racing thoughts then yes it can be a problem. I would suggest trying to get into a routine that is active. Most people that experience problems thinking about things are not social enough and really need to get back out there, hang out with friends and family, start a new hobby, excercise...etc, but do something. One way to continue to have these problems is by not changing anything in your life. Now I'm not saying quit your job and move out of town but try something new or for that matter go back to something you used to enjoy. If you try and you are still having problems thinking about the past or with racing thoughts you may want to see if you can find a good therapist who can give you strategies that are designed specifically for you or refer you to a psychiatrist. I wish you the best of luck.

I'm guilty of the same thing; it's not an easy problem to deal with. Overanalyzing yourself, your mistakes, your problems isn't going to do anything for you; rehashing the past doesn't change it. Things happen; you're human, and you're going to make mistakes. My suggestion is become more active, be more social; if you increase your ratio of good times as compared to mistakes, you may be less likely to focus on those times where you may've screwed up, or said something stupid.
It's also possible that you're depressed. I am, and I think part of that stems from my focus on the past. It's your life, no one can live it for you. It's up to you to take charge of it, of the problems you face, and make them work for you.

Strangely enough, when I find myself doing this, I like to watch or play with dogs. Dogs live totally in the moment and don't worry what they did or how they look. Even if they screwed up in the past, they take the pleasures that the day offers them and enjoy them. They are so happy about seeing friends and are always ready to play or show affection. It reminds me that I have a choice to worry about the past or to just totally forget it and have fun.
Good luck!

When you have the tendency to over think thing, you must also have the habit of talking yourself out of doing things. Which means that you can not see the trees in a forest. My advice to you is to sit back and relax and see and enjoy some of the thing that lie before you. The only time I want you to look back is to see where you have been and not to look back to see where you are going................... You have a chance for a good life as long as you remember that the good life lies in front of you.............................

Always look to the future. Instead of dwelling on a past, think about the next time you do something, how you will handle it.

This sounds more like an anxiety problem. You should see a psychologist. If they don't help you after a while, or if you feel that method isn't extreme enough try combining a psychologist with anti-anxiety medication from a psychiatrist.
