Dear All,

Re. Disable Clearype in Outlook, Norton and IE7

I have read with great interest the commercial advantages the team at Microsoft thought they had in mind in deciding to default systems downloading IE7 with cleartype. [e.g. Help present a palpably new product].

But I am trying to disable it.
I have successfully disabled it on IE7.

However, to my non-surprise cleartype is still very much alive on Outlook, Norton Antivirus and other places I do not know. How do you disable Cleartype in Outlook Express ?and in Norton Antivirus?, and anywhere else?

I'd prefer to disable cleartype precisely so that my work, emails and so on did not look so watercolour like, professional and smooth. One of the advantages of non-cleartype for me is that you can actually process rough edged text, and whats more feel able to "pick up" and dissect the text.

Please can you assist me.

With best wishes,

I wasn't aware that Clear Type has become application-specific. Regardless, you should be able to do this:

Right click your desktop
choose properties
go to the Appearance tab
click Effects
Change the option for "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts:"

that should help.
