I just had my baby July 5th 2006 and I'm still bleeding (period). It was running fine a couple of weeks ago, then last Friday it's been flowing very heavy with big clots. Is this normal?
Had a c-section if that helps.

There are two considerations in how much bleeding is "too much": quantity and duration. In general, we have spoken of heavy bleeding as having to change a sanitary pad every hour, although there are no good studies to help quantify this. In any case, bleeding may be too heavy if a patient is feeling lightheaded, excessively fatigued, or if she passes out upon arising. Bleeding after Cesarean section will usually last between two and four weeks, with the heaviest bleeding occurring in the first two or three days. Small amounts of dark blood may persist up to six weeks.

I had a c-section back in June. I bled for 6 weeks straight. I also would pass large clots. This was normal. My blood count was normal at my check up. However, if you become dizzy or weak or if your heart starts to race, go to the ER. Your blood count may be too low.

you can bleed for up to six months postpartum after your c-section. It also might be your period if there was a short time frame in between your bleeding episodes. Also if after your c-section if you over do things u will bleed as a warning sign that you are doing too much.

Call your doctor just to make yourself feel better. He might want to check you he might not. But so you know you can bleed for up to 6 months after delivering. I had almost stopped bleeding and then started back pretty heavy. The doctor told me I was doing to much and to slow down.

After my c-section I was bleeding so heavily I had to double the maternity pads to accommodate flow. It lasted almost 7 weeks.

its all normal
you will think to yourself, how can i even be alicve if im bleeding this bad? but there it is.
its ok
if youre really scared, call the doc
a helpful hint, if you want it: to catch all that blood, sometimes a pad just wotn cut it, so use those blue backed cotton lined changing liners they placed under you in the hospital. i threw a slew of them i nmy bag when i left the hospital thinking i would use them as portable changing pads for my little girl, but i ended up folding them up and using them as giant pads- they worked great

Go see a Dr. or go the closest ER ASAP. You might have a problem. You should speak to a Dr. At the very least call the Dr. who did your delivery or the ER and ask them.

Honey you need to get to your doctor right away.
This type of thing cannot be diagnosed over the web.
Better to err on the side of safety and get to the doc.
