what kind of climate do you like? Florida is Hot and humid, Arizona and Texas are hot and dry, Kentucky and Tennessee are nice all the time (in my opinion)

It really depends on what climate you like. I love my home state, Massachusetts, but if you don't like 18" of snow over the course of 6 hours at least once a year in the winter (often more, both snow and times per year) then you might not like it. California is pretty sunny, but when I lived there the winter was almost nothing but rain. Do you like warm and sunny? Do you like cozy winters by the fireplace? Do you like as mild and even as possible? I think just about everywhere has its problem weather, it's just a matter of figuring out what kinds of problem weather you can deal with or even enjoy.

and by 48 I assume you are exsceptine Alaska and Hawaii because they are not connected?

It depends on what you like. I like colder weather and snow so I'd pick any state up North (except New Jersey) for me. If you want a more mild climate, go for a state like North Carolina, Virginia, or Tennessee. I grew up in Georgia which generally has mild winters, but the humidity in summer is a nightmare.

It depends on who you are and what you like. Many people love living in California -- but I hated it. The weather in the Bay area was great in summer but drizzled all winter.

I loved the long Spring and Falls and the short Winter in North Carolina -- but the hot humid summers were great.

I liked the dry summers in Minnesota -- but the winters are brutal. Some people love the winters there, though.

There are always tradeoffs.

By the way -- perhaps you missed it, but there are 50 states.

Colorado is great. We get four distinct seasons. The summer is not too hot and winter is never very cold. There is always more than 300+ days of sunshine a year.

California:
--Least variation in temperature
--Lower humidity than most places
--Ocean moderates most weather, but it's away from the east-coast hurricane danger
--Nice range of latitudes to choose from; California ranges from subtropical to temperate as you move northwards.

Since earthquakes are geology and not meteorology, I'm not going to count them into the equation.
