Your question is too generic.
If possible, boot into safe mode.
You can do this by holding F8 while that screen appears.

Have you changed any hardware on it at all. Things that might cause this include a CPU (Processor) change and a new motherboard. It can also be caused by a faulty installation of Windows or just about any other hardware problem, was anything about your system (hardware or software) changed recently.

It can also be caused by a faulty power supply. There are just far too many causes for this that you'll have to be as specific as you can about the system and anything that might have changed, even the most minor detail.

XP does not load over XP. I think that when you boot up you will have two XPs to choose from, click on each a one at a time to see which is the right one. failing that try clicking on last best known configuration, failing this,if you can some how save your files or if they are not that important just format and reinstal as a clean installation.

try to reinstall windows again if thats an option, or boot the cd and follow the instruction on repair(will reinstall the system32 folder and some major files) if that doesn't work. then i'm guessing it's a hardware failure.

I agree with the chap above - this is a general memory problem. You have probably got a bad stick of RAM.

We had this on our PC. We had to have it wiped and every thing re-installed. Cost us £30.

See if you can boot to safe mode. I suspect that you may have a bad memory DIMM.
