In a word, yes. The most useful thing I ever learned in a social studies class is that politicians only have to be good at one thing: being elected. They don't even have to be competent as long as they can fool people into thinking they are.

It's because of gullible people like TxSup that we wind up with idiots like Bush getting elected. Bush is NOT a good Christian! He's good at pretending to be one because he knows that's what Republican voters want. Good Christians don't declare war just because of a personal grudge. Good Christians don't condone torture. Good Christians don't put on a show for the press by going to the Pope for advice when they're not even Catholic! All Bush ever did was tell you he's a born-again Christian and you believe him even though all of his actions prove otherwise.

Bush, Rumsfeld and Cheney ... all were in their current positions before the last election. The Iraq war was in a quagmire; issues of honesty abounded. Yet Bush (and his administration) won the election. So, either politicians do think we are stupid -- and Bush et. al proved it; or there is something more to each election than meets the eye.

You have made a good case for believing politicians think citizens are ignorant. Lets review some of Pres. Bush statements re; Lebanon First stating Hezbollah must disarm. They are guerrillas!! When the fighting stops they hide their weapons, fade away and blend into the community, Unreasonable and impossible to enforce. since the people support them. Their is a lot of secrecy in Hezbollah, so it has been impossible to infiltrate the organization. Then there is the claim they are no longer a state in a state[result of war] Well Hezbollah has representation in Lebanese Parliament [11 seats] Texas is a state in America too, with representation in Congress Soooooo??? we can see just so much propaganda continues to flow.

I find it interesting that your rating on this question is 3 up, and 3 down.

Translates to the divide in national politics. Bush was elected by a 50% majority, give or take 5%.

The only honorable one of the bunch was Powell, and he resigned due to being forced into one of the Bush lies. What a shame. He was the only one who had a head on his shoulders.

It's also a shame that people seem to think Bush is making America safer. I don't get it. I just don't understand how one can believe that garbage...yet they do, well, 50% of them do. Actually it may be less now...his popularity has fallen to what, 35%?

OK, be sure to add Clinton (both of them), Gore, Stephanoupolis, and Reno to the list. I considered adding former Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders to the list, but any American with half a brain could see that she was a crack-brained idiot. By the way, it's not really the politicians who think we're all stupid -- it's the media. They've learned that most Americans will believe anything they hear on the radio or see on TV.

Sorry you don't get it, the American public is not stupid!

It doesn't matter whether Bush and company lie, all politicians lie. Bush seems like the kind of guy we'd have a beer with, and he's a good Christian, just like us. He's saved and will go to heaven no matter what he does during his life, just like us. We are all believers. And God wants him to be president, He chose Bush as our president. He's a good leader and he's protecting us from terrorism so that we can have our freedoms This is what matters, it doesn't matter if he lies.

Apparently the American public is to lazy, stupid and inept at organizing any means of effective change. Home ownership is being threatened and financial security is the real biggest threat to most American families past/present/future wise! You will have to forcibly take the control of Money/Power/Wealth from them. None of this its time to be a kinder gentler nation lip service crap!

They're sure hoping so. They've been working at it for generations - poor education system, brainless entertainment, and most recently, undermining freedoms of speech, press, etc.
