Energy can not be destroyed, only transferred. So when you die and your body decomposes some of your energy is then transferred.
Energy in the universe is a constant.

When you say "death" what does that mean? What is truly alive if the body is all there is to us as living organisms? What does it mean to be alive? The standard biological definitions don't cover the most important aspect of our existence, namely that we are conscious entities. If human life represents the highest order of life on this planet then we would have to say that consciousness is the most important aspect of life, because it is our developed consciousness more than anything else that distinguishes us from lower order organisms. We have the ability as human beings to know our place in the universe, our past before our present life, our future beyond the present life and our origin. The polished, sophisticated methods of eating, sleeping, mating and defending that we have developed by science and technology are not our most important achievements. This is just a step above animal life.

We have self-awareness that cannot be explained by extra neurons. Where does this consciousness come from? Is consciousness material or not? Is it a result of a highly developed brain or can consciousness exist independently of the body? If consciousness is of a different nature than the material energy, then we cannot be certain that it does not survive when the body 'dies'.

Check out the Bhagavad-gita As It Is. I think you'll find what you're looking for there. Especially the second chapter. The link is below.

All physical processes, including death, increase the entropy of the universe. While it is true that energy is conserved, as time goes on, more and more of it will be converted to useless heat. I suppose the ultimate final answer is heat death, in which all matter and energy will exist in the form of extremely sparse radiation. That is, if you assume that the universe will continue to expand ad infinitum. If the universe doubles back and collapses on itself, then the final answer is a cataclysmic "Big Crunch," in which all the matter and energy in the universe will be squeezed into a infinitesimal point. Beyond that, no one knows what will happen.

Death is the final answer in terms of physical existance. Energy is not created nor destroyed, it is only converted from one form to another thus it always exists.

If i knew the answer to this, i would be a millionaire.
i suppose i could answer by saying your body matter will be took back into the earth when you are buried, and hence give food and fuel to plants that grow in the earth, which are in turn eaten by animals... so the energy is all recycled.

As for energy of "the soul".. who knows?

In my opinion, death is the final answer. Your energy; the heat in your body, the electricity in your nerves and muscles will just dissapate. Your body will return to the earth, and that is it.

This is your one shot at life, so make it a good one!!

doesnt make sense to me. and anyway, scientists have found that an atom can be in two places at the same time. if our thoughts and emotions are consequences of neurotransmitters and these are made of atoms, then maybe when we die, there is an echo of them somewhere else. perhaps this is where heaven is.

Death is the end to our earthly life. We then go on to a better life in the hereafter.
