Waves are generated for out at sea. There, even gentle breezes can cause ripples. And ripples grow into swells. And swells can become enormous. It's only when an ocean swell approaches shallow water that the wave stats to break. The bottom of the swell is slowed by contact with the sea bed. The top of the swell, still moving fast starts to roll over. And so the wave breaks.

Just about, and after contacting land they rebound and are mixed up with other waves. BTW, Polynesian navigators can distinguish between rogue waves and the other Continental waves and are able to accurately plot their position in the Pacific ocean based on the waves. They use stars as well, but they have been checked against GPS readings and are really close.

The tide is in fact one huge wave with a wavelength of a million/2 the earth's circumference. for sure this wave will generate smaller waves because it encounters products, despite the fact that it is not the main source of ocean waves. maximum ocean waves type from winds and variations in air tension, and currents interior the water physique. the sea and air are continuously in action and the interface (water floor) is disenchanted (roiled) by utilising the conflict of the various forces and motions. Wind action may be the dominant source of waves on water bodies. have not you ever sat on a river financial employer or lake shore and considered the wind coming around the water, rippling the floor because it passes?

A wave is energy in the water. Wind drag the direction it is traveling. The moon. all of these will affect the amount of energy that is maintained or lost.
