The Canadian government loves tax money so much that I doubt anything will ever change.

Couple of reasons...

First, they are a socialistic country where services (health, dental, etc.) are provided at no cost to the citizens. When you consider that there are only about as many Canadians as there are people in LA County, the result is a much higher tax base per capita - and much higher taxes on consumable goods.

Second - Canada imports almost all of it's goods. So the transportation fees are steep. That cost gets passed on to the consumer as well.

I don't care how much more I have to pay, I'm just glad to be living in Canada!

Oh, and Tim B - health care most certainly does NOT come at no cost to Canadians. We pay through the nose for our health care system through our taxes.

Plus, it costs more to keep Americans out of Canada. Works the same on the upper east side in Manhattan. Lily white, ( almost ) but practically twice as expensive as anywhere else. It doesn't matter if you're white either. Economics. Science or black arts?

Transportation. People on the Canadian border
pay more for gasolene than we do in the middle of the country. Stuff that has to be shipped in,cost more if it has to come from far away.

But somethings you all pay less for like medicines.

TimB; Where did you get the idea dental care is covered by our health plan here in Canada?
I'm a 77year retiree and my wife and I pay out of our pocket for dental care, eye glasses, physiotherapy to name but a few of the extras we pay for. And by the way we have a yearly income of $47,000 BETWEEN us.
Our health care here in Canada is being chipped away bit by bit.
Example wisdom teeth used to be done in hospitals by a oral surgeon which was covered by OHIP.The Ontario government decided to let oral surgeons do the procedure in their office which is NOT covered by OHIP. As I say bit by bit.

I totally agree with you. Ridiculously, taxes everywhere. No wonder 95% of Canadians are broke, I mean they look rich and they drive sleek Cars, owns beautiful houses and other properties etc. but absolutely "zero" in saving. I really wonder what kind of saving strategy is this. Actually, why do people work ? We all work to save some for the rainy days but in Canada people live paycheque to paycheque and the life long payment of house mortgage and car mortgage will never let you die in peace.

I hope Americans see this question because all they ever do is complain about how much things cost.

I suspect one of the reasons is due to the socialist medical system you have.......not that it isn't good....but that costs alot.....and there is not enough doctors......that is just my opinion, and I would suspect that it is more accurate than not
