I am 25 years old (female) and am still living with my parents. The thing is, I'm working on getting my Master's degree (part time MBA) , and I am also in a full time job. So, I'm not a slacker or anything. Unfortunately, I'm feeling ashamed of living at home. It all started a few weeks ago when my work colleague put me down about my situation and said how ‘sad’ it was.
told me that if I'm still living with my parents, then I'm not being a responsible adult. This.man is married and 60 years old,

I went to university for 4 years so I have left home and lived away before.

But, I'm working on my Master's degree at 25, and have a job, so I don't feel I'm being irresponsible. I got this job right away when I moved back home and it’s a good job. My parents are also more than happy with our arrangement. Also, many of the people in the Master's program are older, and already out on their own. So, I feel really immature compared to these people, and I'm afraid I'm going to be looked down on by some of them. I came on here hoping that someone could give me advice about what I'm going through.

Am I a bad person for being 25 and still living at home?

No, you are not bad, or to old to live at home.
You have a job, working on your MBA and live
in a place were people love you. Why would
that be bad? Are your parents happy that you
are with them and save? After a long day at work
or school and studying is it not nice to come home
to a place were you know that you are loved?
So, you are still young but it is your life and no one
can live it for you. Just ignore those people that give
you a hard time.
You are acomplishing so much at a young age - that old
geeser is just jealous that he missed out on a lot when he
was young. Next time tell him or any one who puts you
down "I love my life and my parents".
And don't tell everyone you are living at home.
None of their business where you live and with whom.
Chin up, shoulders straight and chest out! Be proud!

What Is Wrong With Having A Good Relationship With Your Parents, Don't Matter If Your 35 If You Are Happy,

I see nothing wrong with living with your parents at 25 as long as you are actively trying to better yourself. Like you mentioned, you're in school and have a job. Some people do have places of their own while doing this and most really have to struggle to make ends meet, deal with work, and the work involved with school. It's not any of that man's (or anyone elses) business what you do, and if he's 60, things were different back when he was your age. The people your age are probably just a little envious that they don't have it so good. You should be proud your parents are supportive and grateful they still let you stay...and in a few years when you are on your own and stable, you'll enjoy it so much more.

No you're not a bad person!

I have the same thing...sort of. I'm 24 and I still live at home and I feel bad about it but like you I've been to university and worked for a year and now I'm back. I had a relapse of CFS so I'm not well so it's not exactly the same thing but people have looked down on me too about it but it's none of their business.

You're not a bad person. You work full time and you're doing a masters! That's a lot to do! If you're parents are happy and if you're happy then it's no problem and it doesn't matter what someone else thinks about it. It's not their life. You have to try and ignore them.

No..This does not make you a bad person for living at home while you get your Masters. Living at home has nothing to do with wether you are a bad person or not. Plus it is not like you are living with them and not doing anything...It appears that you are being very responsible by holding down a good job and working on your masters which are all good things... The only negative thing about living with your parents is to some people it makes it look like you are not than independent but who cares what other people think. As long as you are being responsible and helping your parents out there is nothing wrong with living with the fam..

I am just happy that I found this. I have asked myself this question many times before. It is interesting how we can go along and be very happy until someone makes us feel bad about something or tells us that it is wrong. I too am 25 and still live at home. I went to college, but still need to go back after some set backs and am working on getting my life together, and my mother is happy that I am still there. I too have found I have been able to have a closer relationship with her and ther rest of my family. I can come and go as I please and make my contribution to the household. I am very independent, I just lack being able to afford living on my own. If I were to move out on my own I right now I would have to forfeit on many bills but I choose to pay off any debt I have incurred so when I am 30 I will not have to worry about it. But what if the tables were turned, and your parents lived with you or you had to live at home because you had to take care of your parents. What if you lost your job? There are many things in life that can turn our lives upside down. The key is how we are able to stay a float. Thank fully none of these circumstances are ones in which you find yourself, however keep them in mind. Perhaps write a list of all the reasons why it is important that you stay at home and what you will gain vs. the things you would gain from living on your own or with a roommate. I have plenty of people that ask me where I live or whom with. I make a quick decision whether I trust them. If I do not even like them or trust them I offer no real information. Some people just ask because it is conversation or they are sizing you up. Ask yourself if you really care what these people think, or whether you owe them an answer. You can always Choose your response. You are a mature responsible adult, no matter where you live. There should definitely be more people like you. Try to find people that are not judgemental and are down to earth, such as yourself. Plus, now a days with the economy, natural disasters, outsourcing, many people are having to depend on others. It is a harsh reality. People that live on their own and have to put on a certain act for others do not really understand how life is.
I wish you well, and I too will keep my head up!

No, you are not a bad person. And your 60 year old colleague lives in a fantasy world called 1963. I'm sure that every single person in that class who is older than you trying to complete their master's is saying they wish they were you.

My best friend is 24, a Naval academy grad, a masters degree from the university of delaware, and this past weekend he wore a delaware state flag as a cape while bar hopping and just getting absolutely hammered. You're 25, if you think you should feel mature at that age, then you aren't living.

I hope not! I am 23 and still living with parents. I am too studying for a degree whilst living at home and also work. I had a bad experience when i went to uni first time round and it took me alot of strength to go back to study. The thought of both going back to study and again moving out scared me at the time and also wasn't financially viable so I chose to stay at home and travel to study.
Since then alot of my friends have moved away and I'm quite anxious to leave home and am almost kicking myself but i only have a year left now and hopefully that will go quickly. Sometimes you end up in places that are a stop gap. So long as you have a goal in mind you should try not to listen to other peoples opinions too much as they don't always have your best interests at heart and don't necessarily understand your situation (I only give my opinion as I am in a similar situation!)
I have many friends at uni who are my age and above and are still living with their parents because it suits them best for now. They are all attractive, have great social lives and boyfriends and are also very talented!
Living at home isn't where you want to be, it's merely a means to an end. Bare that in mind when someone else tells you you're weird for still living at home. Your colleague should've known better!

No your not a bad person to be living at home at 25 although must play havoc with your sex life.I'd say you are sensible to not try to take on to much at any one time. You've got enough to worry about with your Masters and a full time job at the moment.Would you consider me to be bad because I'm 25,living in a housing association house with a two year old son,now sadly after 3 years a single parent due to my ex's immaturity?Probably not.Whats right for one person would be totally wrong for someone else. You just carry on doing what you are doing and you will know when it feels right for you to move out.

I don't think you are a bad person at all. A bad person is someone who does nothing with themselves or gets into mischief etc...

Your out there working hard, earning money whilst at the same time getting a very decent education.

You need to think, in the long run this will pay off. You are only 25, that's totally respectable. Who cares what people think? Take a look at yourself, your out there doing something with your life and as I see it your only one third into that life...

In the long run you will have better job prospects, learn about life more and move out of your parents home.

It will come, don't rush. Whenever your ready.

Hope this helps, and good luck for the future! Rob x
