Just ask them what they would like you to do if you ever get lost, broken down, hurt, or if there is an emergency. I mean what if you're alone and you hurt yourself or someone tries to mug you? It's a sad thought but the world is going to crap these days, it's not safe for most people to be alone with out a cell phone. You could just ask them for those prepaid cell phones. I had one for a long time and they work pretty good. Just make them see all the bad things that can happen with out a cell phone, but don't be to over dramatic, it'll throw the whole thing off. You DON'T need a cell phone. You WANT one.
Either pay for it yourself (suggest it to your parents) or wait until you're old enough. You don't need one now.
Telling them it's for "emergencies" is a load of crap. What teenager is going to be emotionally stable enough to use a phone after getting in a serious car accident, getting brutally mugged, etc? No one. The "emergency" excuse is invalid.

tell them you might be in trouble somewhere or you might be stuck somewhere, or you might need a drive home, and your friends are NOT there...(and if there's no payphone....) What would you do? Ask a stranger to take you home? No Way! Call a friend or your parents on your cellphone to take you home or help you in some big trouble? Yes Way!

There's a cell out that lets parents keep track of where you are
if you can get them to buy you one of those then they can keep track of you and you get a cell....

Tell them that if they buy you one then you will "work" to buy the minutes/service put on it. Offer extra help around the house, get a baby sitting job, etc.
Show them you are responsible and hopefully you are.

just be like what can i do to earn one? or say that you will only use it to call your parents [if you get sprint its free calling after 7pm and free on weekends] u could tell them that you would only call after seven
