Mocking, for whatever reason, is wrong. However, a person can change their hair colour fairly easily but not their skin colour so there is a difference in that sense.

There is and there isn't. It can be the same because it's just the basis of the hair colour and people mock people for their skin colour, the same as hair colour. Whereas you can die your hair, but you can't die your skin. Fake tan isn't an answer.

I think there is a difference because people from many different nationalities can have all different types of hair colour. However, if the person being teased is being victimized also because of the texture of their hair, then I believe it's definitely racism.

Yes there is a difference. Skin color has more to do with race, than hair color. I am sure if you called a African American "blondie" because they've bleached hair, it wouldn't be offensive or AS offensive as calling them the "N-word", right? But, regardless of whether or not mocking someone's hair is or is not racist, it's wrong no matter what.

As someone who was born with red hair - I always got pulled in if something had been done by a red haired person, got bullied, get called all sorts of names still, and historically if you were a red head you were thought to be a witch, vampire, etc is it racism? don't think so as it is based on race, but prejudice yes. Does it bother me now, no not really, when I was a kid, oh yes absolutely.

Racism is based on racial differences, not hair color!!! It's rude and nasty to mock someone because of their hair color, but people of many different races can have different hair colors-for example I know a black child that has red hair.

wow, that is lame. I dont think it is related though, in the way you mean. Because there are many races with black or brown hair. It is more of a stupid thing to do. I would say that the person making fun of your hair color is an idiot and you should just ignore them.

hair colour does not automatically give any indication of culture or creed.. racism is about not just the individual but whole communities.. so short answer is no it is not racism and there is a huge difference.

Yes there is, one form is based on prejudice and the other is based on racism. Mocking someone because of hair color is prejudice, mocking someone because of their ethnic background is racist.

You know what's f*cked up? As a child, my mother was mocked for her red hair and now a lot of people are dying their hair red.
And no, she's not ginger.
