Okay, so I'm a freshman in highschool. young, I know, but I really need this answered.
I really enjoyed the sport football. I would always play with my friends. So I tried it at my new highschool (VEGAS WILDCATS!)
The day I put pads on, I realized that I didn't want to play anymore. I don't want to be viewed as a quitter, but I don't want to play. I just don't have fun anymore. Can anyone help me with this?

What was it that made you realize that. Was it the heat, how sore you were, or maybe you aren't getting to play the position you want. Or it could be you realized it is not like playing with your friends in the backyard. If it is more of heat, and soreness, that will pass. Preseason is the worst time to be a football player. There is nothing fun about just practicing, and hitting the same people all the time, and drilling fundamentals until you puke. It goes away and games are so much fun you will forget how much you hate practice. I always hated preseason practice, could not stand it. But once the season starts, and you get to look forward to hitting other people, and the practices become less taxing, and you get better at your position it is so worth it.

honetly, dont take this the wrong way but it almost seem like you got a little scared or intimidated. This isnt anything unusual. Its scary putting on your pads for the first time. They immediatly make the kids that are already bigger then you look much bigger. I understand you dont want to be a quitter, I would honestly try to ride it out. Playing football in high school was the best memory in my life. I was scared the first week of every single year. I was always a little undersized but I never really got hurt or embarrassed myself. Its also a good opportunity to make new friends that you will immediatly been through more with then most of your other friends. I would try to get through the first game and if you dont feel the energy and get excited then maybe it isnt for you.

I have the perfect out. My cousin's kid used it just this week. Tell them you are concerned you will not have enough time to devote to your school work and academics. You are new to the school (I assume this is your first year in high school) and have no idea how much time and effort it is going to take you. You can go as far as saying last year was a tough year for you and you expect it to be difficult this year too. Football takes a TON of time from your day (with practice and games) so it is realistic you might suffer academic problems because of lack of time for studies.

There is no way a coach can argue you out of it because you are concentrating on the right thing. You can tell kids the same thing. You can also make it sound like your parents were the ones really concerned about the school work issues.

Good luck!

If you're not having fun and you gave it a realistic shot, then quit. Who cares if you are a "quitter"? It's better you don't waste time in your life doing something you don't like that is OPTIONAL! It's not like quitting math...then you'd be considered a quitter.

There are tons of other sports. Choose another. Or just play rec league sports. There's no rule you have to play school sports only. We used to play pickup football, hockey or baseball all the time. Sports do not have to be organized. Main thing is have fun!

Play football. My biggest regret in High School is not participating in anything, and not taking up any sports. I would be so much more fit now if I was into sports during my high school days. Being a part of a team is good for the body and the mind. It teaches teamwork, and discipline, and is just all around good. Don't quit.

i played through middle school and was very good untill my 8th grade year when i broke my collarbone ... i tried my 9th and 10th grade year and quit because my collar bone was acting up and because i have a job ... i didn't try my 11th grade year... ( im a senior ) i finished Spring football during the summer ... I did very well and was probably the best or second best cornerback on the team ... but the coach dosn't respect me for being a quitter ... so you know what i say ... o well ur team will be weaker without me. If you dont wanna play then dont play man.

Try another sport. You came to the realisation that enjoy playing football with your friends. But you also found out that you do not like playing on an organised level. you have 2 choices either stick it out and be miserable or quit. It is a tough decision either way.

you are one weird man. Say you got hurt, thats what I did when I was younger.

When I used to live in France, I used to go to a Dance club afterschool, I just went because my friend went as well. I started to hate the teacher because she said I didnt have the "moves". If I would quit, the other girls would think that I'm a loser.

So I missed it for 2 weeks, and then I turned up and said that my leg muscles hurt and so I cant play anymore.

She had to take me off the team, she had not other choice. I didnt quit, in a way. Try it, might work.
:)

Don't put yourself through the agony. Resign from the team. Don't consider yourself a quitter. if you wish, say you and your family decided that you must concentrate your all on your grades, and you don't want to give less than a 100% effort for the team.

It's perfectly okay to go back to what you've been doing before, playing purely recreationally. Playing on a scholastic team where you're doing the bidding of somebody else subject to their standard may just not be what you want to do or even good for you.
