First of all: STOP. Before anyone goes on an exercise program he or she should check with their doctor to ascertain if there is anything that would be a limiting factor. The new generation of weekend warriors and people who are motivated to exercise is great for the health of America. But it can be dangerous.
People have to watch that their heart and muscles are in condition for the extra exertion. Another thing: progress must be slow and not arbitrary. Some people just figure two miles sounds good and go for it. You should start with a half mile and then progress up to a mile over time and then to two miles.
It sounds like you are doing this in a capricious fashion and you can be hurting merely because your muscles are not used to it, but take my first word seriously. STOP. Get advice.

I doubt that the two miles a day of walking is the cause. That would certainly not fall under the overuse category. But if you were very sedentary prior to walking two miles a day, that could be related. You might want to try stretching before and after your walk.
You may have something about your gait that aggravates your pain in your hip joint. If things don't line up properly, then your joint moves in a way it isn't supposed to, resulting in pain. My experience with orthopedists is that they are surgeons and they'll be more than happy to cut you up. You might want to try a chiropractor first.

Try getting some comfort inserts for your shoes and check the shoes arch supports. If the arch supports are worn get the kind that can be inserted or buy a new pair of shoes with better arch supports. Without the proper support for your feet, it can affect your legs, hips and even spine. I occasionally get aches and pains from walking and that lets me know that I need new supports or shoes.
Have a great day!!!
P.S. Don't you love the way these kids say "at your age" when you're ONLY in your 30's? I'm 41- I must be ancient compared to you. Guess that makes my mom prehistoric... lol!

When you add more exertion to your body for the first time in years it is likely to cause some discomfort. Having said that, I would check to see that you don't have arthritis or some other problem that is being exacerbated. You might be exerting too much effort on your tendons and ligaments. It is surprizing to some how much a little exercise is needed to show you how out of shape you are.
I lift very heavy weights and I still have pain. But my friends who lift much less find that they have pain too. You are starting your body building and you need to be careful and take it slowly.

It is possible that you have tight hip flexor muscles because of the walking. Also, if you do not have a strong lower back your quads will pull you forward when walking and this can pull your pelvis out of place. I would try seeing a chiropractor first to see if you have the pelvis problem. Then you should do stretches for the hip flexors. I have had this problem and I went to a physiotherapist and she has helped me to learn to use my lower back muscles more. Good Luck.

I don't know. Walking 2 miles a day is good for you. Maybe your overstressing it. Take a couple days off then try again. If it still hurts then ask an expert.

Repetetive Stress and inflammation...
You should be taking an anti-inflammatory before you walk (Advil, Motrin, Aleve) and supplementing your diet with Glucosamine Sulfate...
It's not uncommon.
