only one player has won more championship rings than fingers in his hands...and i believe he will be the only one to do so probably for the rest of history of the nba...bill russell did this feat while being a contemporary of the great wilt chamberlain....russell won championships in every level from high school to the pros..in his 13 seasons in the nba he played in 12 final series and won 11 of them...he was a great rebounder, shot blocker without a parallel (his philiosophy on shot blocking was not just to blick the ball but to keep it in play so his team could recover posession), could score and pass well when needed..chamberlain, jabbar, bird, magic, jordan, shaq, etc may have been great players but they can never be considered greater than russell whose records reflect not only individual numbers of note but a tradition of winning that can never be matched in any generation.

Wilt Chamberlain. I mean he revolutionized the game. He was a monster during his hey day. MJ was awesome no doubt about it. For sheer creativity he was and will be the one and only. But Wilt dominated the game of basketball like no one ever has. He averaged 50 points a game-for an entire season. Hello? Even MJ had a night off and was held to 25 every now and then. Wilt scored 100 points in a game, without a 3 point line. Sure, Bill Russell got the best of him, but that's because he had better players around him. Look what happened when he teamed up with Jerry West. The Lakers went on a 33 game winning streak. Jordan's Bulls never came close to that.

"M.J."
Considered a remarkable force at both ends of the floor, ended an NBA career of 15 seasons with a regular-season scoring average of 30.12 points per game, the highest in NBA history (marginally ahead of Wilt Chamberlain's 30.06). He won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls (during which he won all six NBA Finals MVP awards), won 10 scoring titles, and was league MVP five times. He was named to the All-NBA First Team 10 times, All-Defensive First Team nine times, and led the league in steals three times. With all these things taken into account, Jordan is considered by many to be the greatest basketball player of all time. Since 1983, he has appeared on the front cover of Sports Illustrated a record 49 times, and was named the magazine's "Sportsman of the Year" in 1991. He has also appeared on the cover of SLAM Magazine nine times (a record), including as the cover athlete for the magazine's 50th and 100th issues. In 1999, he was named "the greatest athlete of the 20th century" by ESPN, and was second only to Babe Ruth on the Associated Press list of top athletes of the century. His leaping ability, vividly illustrated by dunking from the foul line and other feats, earned him the nicknames "Air Jordan" and "His Airness."
Awards ACC Men's Basketball Player of the Year (1984)
Naismith College Player of the Year (1984)
John R. Wooden Award (1984)
Adolph Rupp Trophy (1984)
NBA Rookie of the Year (1985)
NBA Defensive Player of the Year (1988)
NBA MVP (1988, 1991, 1992, 1996, 1998)
NBA Finals MVP (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998)
NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team (1997)
Nuff said, and I'm a Pistons fan.

KOBE! I'm not a big Kobe fan, but I says what sees. Ive seen many of MJ's games on ESPN Classic and he doesnt seem to stand out and dominate as much as Kobe does today. If Kobe played for the 90's Bulls, the Bulls might had even had a perfect season...

Just want to throw the name Bill Russell out there. The guy won an NBA Championship 9 out of the 11 years he played in the NBA. Look it up. That's gotta count for something.

Magic Johnson Larry chicken Moses Malone Alex English (scored the most factors in the last decade) Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (also grow to be prob the suited in the 70's) Dr.J (also between the suited in the 70's) Dominique Wilkins Bernard King and that i accept as true with bill on jordan and hakeem even inspite of the undeniable fact that they were tremendous gamers and had tremendous years in the 80's. even as i imagine of 1980's nba basketball their names merely dont come to options. i see them as ninety's men.

Bill Russell is the greatest player of all time.
He can dominate a game without scoring that much, and his presence inside the court is enough to inspire his teammates to win. He alters opponent's shot even without trying to block it. He does'nt score that much like chamberlain and yet he won 8 consecutive championship with the celtics.

I would be cliche to say Michael Jordan but I really think he is ! I mean he is complete player, he can be anyhwere on the court, in any position and score last minute and in decesive moments ! What to ask more !
Now if you are looking for show offs I would say, Alen Iverson or vince carter !
