Those are good specs for a laptop. I recommend you buy the latest issue of Consumer Reports (September '06). They have a report on the best laptops to buy.

You might be interested to know that out of eight major brands, Gateway scored the lowest with repair history. In other words, out of 49,000 responses to Consumer Reports 19% of Gateway laptop users reported having needed repairs on their laptop whereas 16% users of Sony reported having needed repairs on their laptop.

Dump the Centrino option in favor of the Broadcom wireless NIC. Centrino is advertising hype and offers NO value for the extra $$$ spent. Other than that, good to go.
