Almost all of the books that you will find available to read for free on the internet are books that are in the public domain. Their copyright has expired. For current books, you would have to pay to read them same as if you were reading an actual book.

Lulu.com. No best sellers, but quite a bit of it is new stuff by new authors. You might get lucky.
Search Karen Frontain. She wrote The Griffin Taint.
