The culprit is almost certainly the detergent which contains a mild bleach to 'enhance' colours. Do you not have a drawer for the detergent? If not, you might try dissolving the detergent in a pint or so of water and pouring that in before you load the machine. Or keep coloureds separate.

Try adding the detergent to the wash after most of the the water has filled the washer tub. Sometimes if you pour detergent directly onto the dry clothes and then start the wash cycle it takes a little while for the soap to mix with the water. It's possible that your soap is a bit strong or even has a small amount of bleach in it and during the time before it mixes with water it bleaches or stains the clothes where the soap was concentrated.

Some times, if you use powder detergent you need to let the water run a while to break up the powder before adding your clothing or it will stain. Also, if you use liquid and don't have it run long enough before adding your clothing you may get a liquid stain, like a blue one if you use tide. I always let it run a good amount before starting. And I've been doing pretty well even without seperating the whites and colors.

Check your laundry detergent, it may contain bleach. The same thing happened to me a few years ago. It was the laundry detergent. There are several laundry soaps that now contain bleach but they are labeled as such. Look at the box or jug carefully to see what is in the detergent.

here is my opinion on this question...
This happened to me a few times. If you wash your clothes in cold (or warm) water.. the detergent may not dissolve all the way into the clothes, and then when you put them in the dryer, the lint gets stuck to the un-dissolved detergent and doesnt come off until the next time you wash them. That was my logical thinking for the day. I thought it made sense.

Sediment in the water! check with your local water dept to ascertain how harsh the supply is! you may have to switch from powder to liquid detergent. Still??!! try liquid fabric softener in the washer instead of sheets in the dryer. Lastly is he well supervised during this? Some men need two gentle hands at all household chores,ya know.

It could be where your clothes are taking the stains out, but discoloring the other clothes and they mixed and certain spots got stains on them. Try washing reds with the same colors or alikes and lighter colors with their base.

It could be the water, some water systems add too much chlorine to the water at one time this could cause th espots. Also, if white clothes have been washed with beach it could be coming off of the edge of the machine.

Hard water stains -- I get them too. If you can't afford to put a water softener in, try Iron Out or some other similar product added to your machine when you do the laundry.

Sometimes liquid fabric softeners will leave funky stains on clothes. They will usually wash out though.
