Not too many politicians. And none of those politicians like Bush and Cheney who wimped out of Vietnam.

My 24yo son is in the 172 Stryker Battalion that just had their deployment extended and were moved into Baghdad to scare away the insurgents. (which we know won't happen - the insurgents will recruit more who are angry with the Americans). He joined Army at age 21. I raised him to be independent and think for himself so I have to accept his decisions. But I don't have to like them and this one sucks. He has been in Iraq for a year now. Says we are not helping that country at all. Our presence is making the situation worse. But "I signed a contract and I have to honor it". I hope he makes it home to use the Military college fund and all the money he has been saving.
We should insist that GW, Dick, Condi and Donald all be sent to Iraq to ride around in a Humvee and wave at the Iraqi's. They have absolutely no understanding of that country's cultural values.
Am I proud of my son? Yes - he made a committment and he is honoring it even though he disagrees with with his current assignment.
P.S. for those of you who are unaware - 1) Iraq did not attack America. GW & his cohorts attacked Iraq. Osama is a Saudi. He and GW Bush are both supported by the government of Saudi Arabia. (GW's family wouldn't give him money to start his first business - but the Saudis did & he has owed them ever since.)
2) Osama did not attack America. He attacked the whole world. As in WORLD Trade Center. The people who died were not all Americans. They were also British, Japanese, European, Chinese, Indian, Pakistani, etc. We Americans don't have the right to revenge all those deaths.
your homework: search the web and find the actual number of US citizens who died in the World Trade Center on 9/11. Also the number of other citizens and their countries.

you are ignorant. I've read some of your past questions and you have a narrow view of the world. Parents are proud of their children when they succeed in doing what they want to do. of course they are also scared their child may die. Support them, because after 18 it's not the parents decision it's the childs.

You don't have to be proud of the objectives in Iraq to be proud of someone doing service in Iraq.
If they serve honorably and do their best then it is something to be proud of.
I hope my sons don't elect to join the military. But if they do I would be proud of the brave choice and their commitment to something they are prepared to give their life for.

I don't think parents are PROUD that their kid could be killed, but they should be proud that their child is fighting for their country. Its not the parents decision its the kids, and if they can't support him/her than there aren't very loving parents. When people sign up for the army (ex.), they know that their putting their life on the line, I hate it when people blame the president or gov. for their child being injured or killed. It was his/ hers decision they knew that they could die, this is a War, don't be ignorant.

HUH? what are you talking about? there is less than 1% that get killed there, and just over 1% that get injured......they should be proud, they are giving a whole country full of people a life most have never known, and always dreamed of......

I feel sorry for the parents. Obviously they have some sort of mental defect if they send their son to perpetrate a continued breach of international law, at risk to himself but at a greater risk to innocent Iraqis.

While I don't personally believe in war, I understand how giving ones life for their country and ideals is an expression of love. They are giving the ultimate sacrifice in order to defend their ideals. You can't blame people for that.
If only those who sent those boys to die would also fight for their ideals as strongly as their soldiers.

enable me answer that query with yet another question... who needs to be minding their own company at artwork and finally end up having to leap one hundred thoughts to steer away from being burned alive via jet gas? you need to get genuine and study what we are struggling with for, and not be listening to all that liberal jibberish. via ways, everyone observed that Cindy Sheehan did no longer get entangled with protesting the conflict until eventually her own son died? what's her message? That the sacrifices of alternative squaddies did no longer warrant her objection? Sheesh! communicate approximately hypocrits!

I would be so proud of my son. Knowing he was doing his duty to keep his country free and fight for democracy against the evil people of the world who would destroy America.
GOD BLESS AMERICA.
