In my opinion I think you should read a good natural cures book (i think "Natural Cures "they" dont want you to know about" is a very good one) and follow the recomendations in that book ONLY under the supervision of a licenced healthcare practitioner (in my opinion, ideally one that does not use drugs and surgery. Maybe you should try a few different ones since according to what I've read not all of them are that good).
If I was you, having your condition, I would not think twice about following the recomendations I gave you because up to where I know you cannot die or suffer something bad from stopping the treatment that a medical doctor is giving you for ADD (unlike a condition like cancer, in which you would leave your medical treatment, running the chance that if all this natural cures thing is a fake, your cancer could get worse or maybe cause you to die as a result of leaving that medical treatment)

Caffeine.

It is a stimulant, but has an effect similar to ritalin (methylphenidrate)

Coffee, mountain dew, redbull, coca cola all contain varying amounts.

During the summer months away from school, these are preferred over the perscription medications for my 14 YR ADD daughter.

Make certain that you are otherwise eating balanced meals and perhaps vitamin supplements.

Get enough sleep also, and drink lots of water.

Good Luck!

There are a few things that you can do that are natural but none are clinically proven. My wife works at an herbalist office that has been treating people for over 25 years. Im pretty sure they would be able to help. Call 800-527-5682 and ask for Nancy.

It is very difficult to find research (thus proven) natural alternatives for ADD, however, if he/she needs help with focus and concentration, I would suggest using aromatherapy in the room while doing homework, etc. The natural essential oils to use would be stimulating ones in the citrus family, such as orange, lemon, lime and bergamot. You can diffuse them into the air by use of a small fan diffuser. We sell supplies at our website. I have been in the medical field for over 20 years and use aromatherapy with great success. check our website and contact me personally with additional questions.

Wasn't there a South Park episode that dealt with this?

The alternative treatment to Ritalin was a book written by that doctor called "You Can Either Be Quiet Or I Can Pop You In The Mouth!"

Believe me, you don't want a Ritalin-hyped kid who idolizes Phil Collins...

Biofeedback is one alternative treatment that may be helpful for ADHD. A review by NIH doctors in 1992 listed biofeedback as possibly effective. Homeopathy is frequently used for ADHD, but there is no good evidence that it works.

If the kid were a bit younger, I would suggest coffee. It worked on my brother. I'm not sure about 14 years old: That is getting close to adulthood.

Talk with a doctor and a licensed herbalist.

Good luck!
