We have been asked to help renovate some church pews that are upholsterd back and seat. The padding seems to be fine. The edges of the material is glued and stapled. The ends of the seats do not touch the ground so for looks only. Do we remove the top molding to start and if so what would be the best way? Also, any idea on a cost?

Well, instead of diassembling a church pew ... why don't you just hall it of in one piece.

I mean if you are going to steal it you might as well do that ... Plus, why don't you go after the cash stored in the church instead of a pew ... do you need a sofa or something? With the money you earn from robbing the church you could probably buy a new sofa!
