Tonsilitis is infectious, but you also have an immune system that is exposed to infectious germs every day. The better your immune system is the more able you to fight off these kinds of infections before you show symptoms.
Your boyfriend was contagious until he started taking antibiotics. After 24 hours of medication treatment, he shouldn't be contagious anymore.
Have fun on your holiday!

Tonsilitis is infectious but no need to worry. At first it isn't as bad as some think and you don't need to desinfect all the things your boyfriend touched before.
When he's on penicillin the infectiousness lasts for about 3 days and then you can kiss him without any problem.
The incubation time, that's the time between catching the disease and the first symptoms appearing, is about 5 till 7 days. When your boyfriend has it now, you would have it too by now when you had contact in the incubation time.

Tonsillitis (note spelling) is caused by the Streptococcus bacterium, adenoviruses, influenza virus, Epstein-Barr virus, parainfluenza virus, enteroviruses, and the herpes simplex virus. Since you may not know precisely which agent has caused your boyfriend's case, I'd advise you to be cautious.
A person can be a carrier of Strep bacteria and be asymptomatic (without symptoms) and yet transmit it to others. Don't become that person.
Until your boyfriend has completed his anti-infective regimen he is considered contagious and you should avoid close contact. This includes kissing (especially kissing), drinking or eating from the same source and any other activity that involves contact with the mouth or saliva.
Hope he feels better soon. Enjoy your holiday!

Any time you see itis at the end of something it means inflammation. Tonsillitis means the tonsils are inflamed for some reason, could be bacterial infection or viral infections. Considering he is taking antibiotics my guess is bacterial so it is that particular bacteria at fault here not the tonsils. Meantime once a patient is on antibiotics for 24 hours they are not longer considered contagious. You would no doubt be able to catch this bacteria but you don't tell us how long he has been ill, when he started meds, how long ago your contact with his was etc. Sounds like you are worrying just to be worrying.

YES, tonsillitis is very infectious. Keep the kissing to a minimum and don't use the same cups or utensils. I suggest spraying the door handles and other common areas with lysol to prevent further infections to anyone else.
If you happen to get it, go to the Dr. asap and get some ammoxicillin!

If it is a streptococcal infection, you are fine. Virus infections involving tonsils are infectious longer.
