2 hamsters or 2 gerbils?

2 hamsters. I'd get 2 females though because they are gentler than males! If you get 1 boy and 1 girl they'll eat their babies sometimes. Sometimes the babies eat their parents too. I'm pretty sure it's the same with gerbils. I have a hamster they are so so sweet....my hamster sleeps in my hand every day for about 20 min then she goes in her cage until night! Ok to everyone saying gerbils.....gerbils eat their own poo because they don't absorb the nutrients the first time they eat their food, so then they re-eat the food by eating their poo! I would know, my cousin has one! Hamsters, get hamster, but females!

I can tell you that two hamsters of the same sex will fight with each other until they tear each other to pieces. I know because I had a hamster when I was a teenager that had babies. We gave some of the babies away, but kept two boys and two girls. The boys were in a cage and the girls in another. The mother and daughter began to fight after about 3 months - the brother's not long after. I do not know about gerbils.

you cant put 2 hamsters together but you can 2 gerbils

Hamsters are solitary animals, and you should only keep one of them. Gerbils are social, and they like to be housed together, but it's better if they are young when introduced or they may fight excessively.

As long as they are both males, they are about the same. Males are less agreesive and territorial then females. I had two female hamsters and they fought like crazy!
If you are gonna put them in a cage together be sure they each have their own little house made out of wood.(you can buy these at any pet store) and their own food and water dish.

I'm sorry but I'm still not understanding this rodents as pets thing...yuck! I do think a 9mm would go great with either choice!
