♡That's hard to say, really. I think it all depends on the person. The people I know use either Yahoo or Skype. Many people have recently started using Skype and are satisfied with all the options they have. These are all good and fine when you have PC access BUT I agree with J and to be honest most everyone contacts ME by my cellphone IM (and I them). It's easy to instant chat with our cell phones, anyplace, anytime... here in Japan.♡

Yahoo's making a pretty big advertising push with Yahoo Japan. Most people use their cellphones but a lot of my friends here use MSN. Skype is still kind of new but I've seen ads for it.

Maybe Yahoo Messenger Japanese version. (no compatible with YM English version).
Today, the line is changing to FTTH(optical Fiber To The Home) in Japan. Some messengers can't stride the modem, because of the static IP.
Young Japanese may prefer chatting through their cells(mobile phone) to those messengers on PC.

im pretty sure it's MSN. i have a lot of japanese friend and most of them have MSN. they def dont' have AIM and i've heard a few have Yahoo
