There is nothing wrong with a short skirt in an appropriate setting, but not in the workplace unless you're a cocktail waitress or some such.
In fact, I rather dislike the whole "business casual" dress code. Jeans on Fridays are fine, but I just don't trusting my legal business to a lawyer wearing cargo pants and a concert t-shirt. *L*
I also take exception to something I saw on the t.v. show "What Not To Wear". They show a sign in the promo that says "No mini skirts after 30." I'm forty and I still have fabulous gams, thank you very much. In a casual summer setting I frequently wear short skirts and have no intention of stopping until I have cellulite and varicose veins!

Obviously short dresses with more of body open for the world is meant to attract or tease men. And girls who do that are comfortable with that fact. And not all women are comfortable doing that and not all women do that. And yes, it all depends on the society and environment you are living. The more promiscuous or free society, the more you see such dresses.
The more conservative society, the more covered the girls would be. Well a decent dress code or standard is different in different societies or countries.

Unfortunately some individuals are inept at deciphering dress codes...
I happen to be of the variety that thinks mini skirts make every woman (no matter how beautiful or in shape) look like a common hooker.

I don't think it has anything to do with "I look better than you". I think it has to do with self esteem issues. (Don't get me wrong...some women think highly about themselves) However, you would be surprised at the amount of women who don't feel "wanted" or "sexy". I think the short or mini skirts help them feel that way. I, personally, prefer jeans or shorts. I wouldn't be caught dead in a mini skirt.

I wear them when my hubby and I go out on our "date nights" together. He enjoys seeing me in them with 5" stilettos on too!
I have the confidence to wear them and I want to for my hubby.
I could care less what anyone else may say or think.
Obviously you and I have different ideas about this and if you prefer the ladies your with not wear such things, you can ask them not to. Many ladies as you have seen on your answers don't care to wear them for a number of reasons. Some of us though do and we are proud and confident.

i prefer jeans myself, but everyone has their own style, i guess that is why some women like mini skirts, and hey if they look good in them, more power to em!

Some women prefer them just because they have the ability to wear them. It is kind of like them saying "I am better looking than you". Personally I think they are trashy and they should quit making them.

First of all, I love the skirt!!! People tell me I've nice hip and legs but I still don't wear shorts

I really like long skirts. My bf enjoys the brief ones. So my wardrobe is loaded w/ 1/2 and 1/2.
