They are on an old plate (about a year or a little older) and contain a plasmid with kanamycin resistance. They don't seem to want to grow in LB or when spread on a fresh kan plate.

Try it in milk, or failing that ask an Agrobacteriaist.

Does your LB contain kanamycin? Could be different resistance... Maybe try without antibiotic...

How are you spreading on a fresh plate? From one colony?

it grows very slow and is difficult to maintain. Add one of the following chemicals: Sucrose
Potassium Phosphate, Monobasic
Thiamine
Calcium Chloride, Dihydrate
1 M Magnesium Sulfate, Heptahydrate
Sodium Phosphate, Dibasic
Sodium Chloride
Ammonium Chloride
Agar

Agrobacter radiobacter used to grow on Sheep blood agar held in either 10% Co2 or in a microaerophilc jar. It had to be left for approx 4 days to get any useful growth.
