1. Unions drove the cost of labor up so much that we had to outsource in order to remain competitive.
2. FAMILY (married with children of the same father) is proven in studies to be the most effective way to raise a better next generation. Did you ever read about the study of elephants without a father in the herd as a role model - they were all THUG elephants until they brought some older male elephants into the heard to control the THUGS.

Agree with you. In fact you have summed up almost all the ills causing tensions in American society or for that matter generally in the Western Nations. In a multi-cultural multi-ethnic society there are bound to be differences of opinion. I can not perceive of any serious hatred in the society except for age old minor racist jibes or acts. But the Country as a whole has to stand rock solid dropping all objections and let one man lead during a war situation or in dealing with terrorist menace which is no less than a war. This is an imperative requirement to success.

Well, great civilizations (and that's assuming that you mean that the US is great), have been brought down by a number of factors, including invading armies - Ancient Greece / Rome / Egypt / Mesopotamia.
Your question assumes one thing, that isn't quite factual anymore. When was the last time a "civilization" fell? One could argue that the Nazi government fell, but that didn't embody the entirity of the German culture, nor did it mean the end of western or European civilizations.
Civilizations don't fall anymore, governments crumble, but there probably will never be an great break down as there was after Rome ever again.
If I'm right, your question is addressing internal problems and whether that will be the cause of the US losing its place of superiority in the world scene. And the answer is, most definately.
No country rules forever, and while democracy and free market systems will live on, the US will slowly give way to a more powerful country...China, European Union.
America is falling apart from within. We have more people cheating on their taxes (lose of legitimacy of government), very high divorce rate (break down of family unit - the basis of which every culture is founded on), and the coruption of corporations. All of this will lead to another, more stable country coming in and usurping the power of America.
...on a side note, the problems of immigration and corporate pensions will be corrected on their own by natural market forces. I wouldn't worry about that.

We are all going to have something in common before all is said and done. Poverty.
1. Lack of hard work. You bet. Some folks believe that getting up and going to a job every day is hard work. "The world owes me" mentality has taken root.
2. Lack of values. A larger percentage of born-again adults have been divorced at sometime during their lifetime than have non-Christians (27% vs. 23%)

Gay pride. A loud voice but a very small minority. This is just a side issue used for distraction from the real deal.
3. Political system. Rampant complacency. We were on a roll until a minority of haters found a way to hijack the system.

I'd say you're 3 for 3 in concepts, and 1 for 3 in application.
Lack of industry (work, effort, production) are fatal to an economy. Immigration problems are not, nor are collective bargaining. It's not the unions that are destroying the country. That argument is about 60-80 years out of date. It's outsourcing -- where companies are sending jobs overseas, without encouraging local efforts.
Lack of values and morals is also corrosive. But what's even worse is hatred of those who are different than you. You cite as examples three personal choices dealing with how people form relationships. You seem to think that you're view of family is the only valid one. That prejudice is what is destructive to society, not the fact that people are making different choices than you would.
The third one I'll give you. But part of that has to be tolerance for those who disagree with you, and a willingness to work together with people even when you don't get your way. That's the current problem with America. If one side wins on an issue, the other side throws a temper tantrum and stops working together.
We need to stop fighting amongst ourselves, yes. But we also need to stop trying to impose one belief system on everyone. We are a diverse nation, and unity will only come when we tolerate and respect that diversity, so that everyone feels like they have a place and can contribute.
Because only when people are made to feel welcome for who they are, will they work together for common goals.

I agree with coragryph gentleman, we need to be more understanding to the fact that we are a very diversified nation and cannot push one point of view and expect everyone to accepted. Only through respect and understanding we will make this nation great

I think the US is paying too much attention to what is going on overseas than what is happening within its own borders, things like education and such. I think the US should take care of itself before worrying about others.
