You don't want to use them every time you fill up because that would be wasting money. Adding a good fuel system cleaner every 5 to 10 thousand miles is not a bad idea.
Now octane boosters are a blatant waste of money if you are looking for an increase in performance. It will not happen. They may raise the octane level a point, but octane level has nothing to do with performance.

Fuel additives do basically nothing for your performance or mileage that you will ever notice, and the increased cost will negate any gain many times over. Octane boosters, even if they do work, are not even meant to increase performance, they are meant to increase your fuel's resistance to preignition, or knocking, if you have a high-compression engine. That's what higher octane fuel is for. Most cars do not need anything other than 87 octane. If you really think you need higher octane, use higher octane pump gas. As far as cleaning your fuel system with fuel system cleaning additives, some do work. Stay with the big brands like STP, etc. I have used them successfully, although they are not a miracle cure or a replacement for professional cleaning. As far as oil additives go, again you will see little or no performance gains from additives claiming to increase your mileage or performance, and you will lose money in the short and long run. The two oil products I can say worked for me as advertised were Lucas oil conditioner and Lucas transmission fluid conditioner. Both of them have the consistency of Mrs. Butterworth's syrup, and have the effect of thickening the oil or transmission fluid, and they do wonders for cars with a lot of wear and miles by making them shift better, leak less, and run quieter. I kept my old LTD alive for quite a while with Lucas products and a little fuel system cleaner.

Stp (and mostly the ones that say made with jetfuel) just contain kerosene.......
Techron does indeed seem to work.... and marvel mystery oil from what I've seen.....
Oil additives? stay away from em...... your engine will last just as long with or without em..... sometimes actually longer without.

yes yes yes
STP Fuel system cleaner in the Black Bottle at every oil change...every 5000miles.
STP Fuel treatment in the red bottle at every gas tank.
The Fuel system cleaner is like $4 at Wal-mart and the Fuel treatment in the red bottle is like $2.50 for a pack of 3 bottles. use one bottle for each gas tank fill up.
Also use good gas like Texaco.
Two mor ethings to do...Steam clean your engine at the self wash car wash with the power sprayer...Dirt traps heat in the engine maks you get bad mileage. Also change your air filter every oil change...they are only like $6 to $12.
Also, when you do your oil change...put in a quart of Lucas Oil treatment in your engine with the oil.
Believe me...It will help greatly! SERIOSLY! I SWEAR BY IT!!!!
I do all my own work on my 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo...the list MPG is 22MPG in town and 28 MPG on the freeway. I currently get 23MPG in town and 33MPG on the freeway. I have 85K in the last 2 years...Runs just as good as the day I drove it off the lot.
IT ALL WORKS!
