I was wondering what you thought about this. If you are a christian, isn't saluting and pledging to a flag a kinda way of worshiping a false idol? I know that you are going to say that it is a form of pride for you country, but isn't pride one of the seven deadly sins? If you think that you would have some good clarification to this, please share.

taught to us as little kids when we are incapable of thinking critically. Then as people become older they are brainwashed into thinking that America is always right, as opposed to SOMETIMES right.

Military members salute the flag to show respect towards it. It is a symbol of the nation.
We pledge to it because it is the symbol of the nation that gives us our freedoms. It isn't worshiping a false idol because there is no worship involved.
I pledge allegiance to the flag, of the United States of America, to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisable with liberity and justice for all.

That is simply saying that you are alling yourself with this nation, it has nothing to do with worship.

If your going to choose to be a Christian you have to learn balance. Don't take things out of context, and go out of control. There is good pride and bad pride. Pride in your country is a good thing. Pride in yourself to a certain extent is a good thing. It's okay to believe and have faith in something as long as you don't get crazy with it. For example: you have pride in your self so you take care of yourself. You take baths, you eat right, and you exercise. Too much pride in yourself is not a good thing. Such as you think your better than everyone else, or you become selfish and never share with others. Saying the pledge of allegiance is basically stating that you believe and trust in your country, and that you will stand up for your freedom. It's not like your worshiping a "God". You should take pride in what ever you believe in, but don't get out of hand with it.

It's a show of respect to the government and the country.

And it's not a false idol as long as there is no national religion, because (until then) the flag is not the symbol of any deity or church.

And pride by itself wasn't a sin. Re-read the story. It was "excessive pride" or "unwarranted pride" (depending upon the translation).

I salute the flag not out of pride but out of respect for what it represents. I do not worship the flag, but instead remember all of the men and women it has flown over in past battles and embrace it for the meaning it has to this great nation.

I always stand to respect the flag, it is a national symbol. But never would I "pledge an allegance" to a piece of cloth. I salute and respect our national symbol, but the saying the pledge is sheepish and kind of creeps me out.

Because it signifies freedom for our country. I don't think God will frown upon those who salute the flag/soldiers who gained this freedom for all of us. We don't idolize it, it's just a flag that represents the USA.
