I am seeing more and more resumes with Catia as a skill, if a client needs a CAD designer are they very much alike?

Not at all, if they claim knowledge on Catia and overlook AutoCad, I'll overlook that resume. ArchiCAD and Vector works are different as well, it takes time and training to develop skills in CAD software.
