It's a general physical process whereby some forms of radiation, such as light or moving particles, for example, are forced to deviate from a straight trajectory by one or more localized non-uniformities in the medium through which it passes.

The rays from the sun which have entered the atmosphere close to earth but don't touch the surface. While they are passing through the atmosphere they need to pass from a denser medium to rarer medium(air near earth is denser than the others). In this case, they might cross the critical angle. In this case these rays get reflected back. Thus light gets trapped. This is called scattering of light.

scattering is a general physical processwhere by some form of radiation such as light or moving particales are forced to deviate by a straight path trajectoryby one or more localised non-uniformitiesin the medium by which it passes. also seen in sound phenomenon.

It's part of the effect of seeing color. When light hits a cloud, we see white because the cloud 'scatters' all wavelengths of light. We see green leafs because leafs scatter only the wavelength that looks 'green'.

when white light(sunlight in general) passes through a medium idt gets divided into different wavelengths. some wavelenghts appear in different colors and some r not visible.
the dividing of light depends upon the medium. this can be better understood by observing the dispersion if light through a glass prism.

when light travels in a non-vaccum path (i.e. where there are atoms or molecules) these atoms and molecules absorb this light and after a fraction of second radiate this light in different direction, this is known as scattering of light.

It is the tyndall effect. Where light gets deflected from the tiny particles in the medium.
