I can't speak for the rest of the UK but in Scotland the worst town was officially voted for a couple of years ago by an architectural group giving an award know as the Carbuncle. The winner was a town called Airdrie which is about 16 miles from Glasgow. I know this because I was once a resident of said town. The news link from the time is attached below.
It truly is an awful place to live on so many levels. Attempts to improve the town meet with regular disaster. For example a few years ago the Queen was visiting Glasgow and part of the route went through Airdrie. In an attempt to "tart the place up" the council decided to paint all the grey council houses in shades of pink, yellow, cream etc to give the town a Miami Vice look. Oh…my…god…..words cannot describe how bad this looked. It looked like an a world war two detention centre that had been sponsored by dulux. You really have to visit to understand the true horror that is Airdrie.

Merthyr Tydfil...it's where I came from, so that doesn't speak terribly highly for it. When I was a kid, it had the highest heart attack, obesity, alcoholism and crime rates, and the largest council estate in Europe.
Ah, the good old days...
Now it has this morbid self-belief that makes people think they deserve to be taken seriously and a regrettable number of them are learning to speak Welsh.

well worst town at the moment itz the midlands , birmingham & Coventry are the worst cities in U.K they have the highest record of murders , stabbings , drug operatrions
so yer i think the midlands is terrible
