3) Replace fast food with fixed food (even a simple sandwich)
4) Pay your bills on time
5) Find free ways to have fun
6) Get a buddy to work with

Any of the books already mentioned here are a good place to start. I'd recommend picking 2 or 3 of them in order to make sure your getting a few different perspectives on the same issue, then integrating what makes sense to you personally and what fits your own unique needs. I also recommend Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. Once you've gotten a little education on the subject, I'd recommend talking to a financial professional. I emphasize getting some education first for two reasons: a) it will help you to more effectively communicate your needs, objectives, and limitations to a professional, and b) it will help to guard you against the potential of being 'taken' by someone who doesn't attach a lot of importance to their fiduciary obligations (unfortunately, there are some out there).

Mary Hunt has a couple of books one called Debt Proof Living and the other one is Live Your Life for Half the Price. She has some fantastic ideas that have helped me and other members of my family as well....she also has a website and a weekly newsletter with tips...her web address is www.cheapskatemonthly.com.
