I'm 15, turning 16 in September. My parents divorced when I was 6 years old and I live in NC. So how old do I have to be before I can live on my own or with a non-relative friend?

I think in most states you can file a petition for it when you are 16.
check out your state website for actual age..

At the age that they EMANCIPATE you?!?!?

And, if you are that smart, that you hold a GOOD job down, and have your own apartmetn, the STATE might OK it, if YOU are 16 in some states, and a high school grad. or, 17 in other states... You CAN join the military, with parental consent!!!

OR, if both your parents were DEAD, and you had no living relatives who gave a crap about you, and the State Social Services were pretty much full, and had LOST over 650 is in the past year, you MIGHT just be permitted to be out, on your own...at an even younger age, like at 15!!! IF you are an HONORS Student!

Remember, NO AMERICANS have ANY "Rights" in Mexico!

The rednecks of English speaking Canada don't want any more unruly teenagers, and, you prolly don't 'parlieu vou le Francieu'!

Venezuela might accept you, as a white slave, if you are a girl. Then, they either put you to 'work' or sell you to the Arabs, the heathens! Depends upon your value as a 'beauty'...

In most states, the legal age to live on your own without a guardian is 18. You can however request a court grant you emancipation status before you are 18 years of age. You must prove that you would have the capacity to take care of yourself and pay for expenses like food and shelter by obtaining an adequate job. Both of your parents have to agree to that. You can also divorce your parents, such as a lot of child celebrities do, but that is extremely farfecthed and costs a lot of money.

The laws vary from state to state. Where I live in Colorado, a person can be emancipated at age 16. This is where your custodial parent allows you to take custody of yourself, but it must be done by the courts with your parents permission. I agree with the first answer, though, don't rush it. Take your time and be thankful for the help you get. I'm sure your parents love you and want what's best. And, believe it or not, they do know more than you think they do.

That depends on a number of factors, but generally 18, or you can ask for emancipation before that if you can show that you are able to support yourself without the help of your parents. Another option would be to graduate from high school early and get accepted to college and move into the dorm.

Good luck!

Divorce NEVER benefits a child, so no, the laws are not different for children of divorce. You will have to finish school, and get as much as you can out of it. Don't cut yourself short. There will be plenty of time for living on your own. Promise

Humanly speaking it does not really matter your age, though legally some state advocate 18 years old. It bascially should depend on when you are matured enough to take your own decisions and live a life accountable to you alone and ultimately to your creator.
Good luck
