sometimes i have to put them on to understand what people are saying or if there's a lot of noise, but i always end up watching the words in stead of the movie!!! and sometimes my neck starts to hurt to.

No, I like them. I always have english subtitles or closed captioning on when I am watching a movie or tv. The word exposure is good for your brain.

I understand what you mean. My mother is hearing impaired, so she watches TV with the closed captioning on a lot. I hear just fine, but I still find myself watching the captioning instead of the action. So, yes, they can be annoying. But, when you get into different languages, very necessary.
What tees me off more than that though, is when my mom is watching TV by herself, she'll turn the sound off entirely. If you can't hear it anyway, I guess I understand, but my ears work just fine, thank you. You can have your captioning, I know you need it. But I still want to hear it!

Not really. If I'm watching an anime in Japanese, I won't know what's being said unless I have subtitles. And sometimes I even use subtitles when I'm watching anime in English. To each their own, I guess.

I have a little boy who squeals and makes a lot of noise, so I almost always have the closed captions on when I watch TV. It really helps when I can't hear what's happening on the show.

not really. unless it has subtitles in a different launguage than english. i just need english subtitles and i can see the subtitles and the show/movie too.
