I've enjoyed fresh cucumbers from my garden this year, but was wondering if a trellis would be best to grow them on next year. Right now I'm using just simple bamboo poles, but they seem to need something larger.

Thanks.

I let them grow on a fence. it's great, the cukes are straight and since they're not on the ground, the rabbits don't get them and they don't rot.
and I can FIND them easier.

No you do no longer. some diverse sort of cucumbers do no longer even climb. those are basically stated as bush cucumbers. For any cucumbers which will climb that's better to have a trellis yet isn't mandatory. I do use a trellis and as quickly as have been given a 21 inch long cucumber that's relatively vast for a Cucumber. i might propose regardless of the shown fact that that is not any longer mandatory.

Yes, a trellis is probably your best option. If you have a fence bordering your garden, you could trellis them up the fence, using twine or plant netting attached to the fence for the vines to climb up. This saves room in the garden as well as having the other advantages of trellising, such as straighter cukes and better opportunity for you to inspect the cukes for health and potential insect damage. A sturdy tomato trellis system can also work well.

They grow very well in trellis. I actually use a piece of cattle great held at a 45 degree angle with t spikes. The cukes hang down and don't get yellow spots from laying on the ground.

I did this, the problem is that they block the sun at points in the day. I got a good crop out of them though. I used tomato trellises, the cylindrical type.

Actually they grow better.(you don't miss those that hide under the leaves and grow to the size of a small melon). They need lots!!! of light and water.
