Why spend so much money for expensive names rather than just buying something practical? What makes the above named purses better? I'm looking for a legitimate answer, as opposed to simply saying "it's cooler" or "they're in style".

Some of the more expensive name brands DO use higher quality materials (Like real italian leather compared to pleather). Other than materials, you're really only paying for the name.

I'll admit, I would rather buy designer purses than Old Navy purses. Just look in my closet. Yes, they are cute and adorable; but the reason they're designer is because the quality is a lot better. My Coach purses don't get damaged from water. I got a stain on this Marc Jacobs purse, and it didn't even show up! Designer purses are just better quality, and that's why I buy them.

Okay I have a COACH purse.It costs $178.00.
I'm not gonna lie.It gives you status, and popularity.
people will think you have good taste. But for me,I
bought a COACH purse because of the quality.I've
had it for about 3 years now.& it still looks new.I mean
you can buy 5.00 purses at Walmart.but the quality is
not as good as a designer purse.Differences below--->>

Louis Vuitton purse as....
- more expensive
-100 times better quality
-Material is made to last
-There basically just made better,
with more expansive(made to last)
materials like leather,canvas,other fine materials
- If you want a louis vuitton but dont have 500.00 to
blow,try ebay or knockoff

opposed to Walmart purse
-cheaper
-probably fall apart pretty quick
-material is cheaper,probably fake
-There made for the price,if your paying
$5.00 for the purse, your paying what it
should costs because its cheap.

hope this helps

I suppose that owners of those more expensive purses have been sold on the attention to detail and craftsmanship of these purses. Also, these purses are supposed to be made of a higher quality of material than more "practical" purses. I am happy with a decent purse that zips and has compartments. No name required.

One word: Quality. I have a gorgeous Furla bag that cost much more than I could afford but the leather was buttery-soft, you could just FEEL the quality. I don't like extravagant styles or logos all over, so this was perfect, very discreet and classic style.
The same goes with Hermes, the craftsmanship that goes into one of their Kelly bags...wow! They're not my up of tea, personally (Kelly bags), but it's a very artisanal, high-quality, top-notch materials, and some people find it adequate to spend so much on them...

I go for any kind of purse that I think looks "cute," or "hot." I'm so not into that "Oh, I want to be cool and they are in style." I buy things that I like not because everyone else has it. So you're totally right. People should buy more practical things like you and me do, right? Definitely!

Plus! All the hottest stuff in style are usually so ugly.

I know for some of the people it like a competition, to see who can get the better bag or which costs more. Also some women may want the attention or celebrity connection associated to the bag.
Not all women, just some

wal mart is freaking cheap. theyre purses will fall apart VERY fast, as louis vitton, prada, dooney, they will actually last a LLOONNGG time. they also look better with clothes. when you have a cheap bag, it brings down the outfit youre wearing.
