The other day I downloaded windows media player 9 onto windows 98 se. I thought everything was okay until I realized that I now have no sound. Although the audio hardware is available I dont know how to enable it again. I dont understand too much technical jargon so would appreciate a nice simple answer. any ideas? really driving me crazy now. fankyou all.

I'm not a computer expert but it may due to that you have Windows 98. My mom has that too and she has Media Player 7 and it doesn't work on her computer either. Or maybe your sound card doesn't work properly. Sounds like you may need of a computer upgrade.

Right tic on my computer, select manage, in the left pane select device manager, in the right pane open sound controllers tree by a tic on the plus sign. Look for the sound card, something like "SoundMax" or "SoundBlaster". Right tic and select properties, then check on the bottom of the general tab page to see that the device is "enabled".

try uninstaling mediaplayer ......restart an see wat hapens...if no progres...try an see if u did;t chek mute or the volume are at 100%
3. try uninstaling your sound card..after u restart the comp ..it should instal on his one (sumply del all the icons with a speaker on it)

good luck (try instaling win2000 ..it's better than 98)
