I am 8 months pregnant and my baby will be here very soon and I have mold/mildew on a wall in an inaccessible (locked utility closet) in my apartment. I have been asking my landlord since Decembe to do something about it and they just spray tub and tile cleaner on the wall! The smell is starting to get unbearable and I am worried about our safety. What can I do?! Isnt there some kind of law for these things? (I live in Georgia by the way)

By-pass the manager and call the management company that over sees the apt. complex. This is generally the setup in apt. complexes== all who work there get their paycheck from the management company. Ventilation may be the " cure " for this "inaccessible, locked utility room=perhaps?? Is this where a hot water tank is located? Could have a leak? Mold loves damp sheetrock. Suggest a air vent be installed tn the door itself==vent pipes==electric fan. Is the roof leaking rain water inside? If the sheetrock has become wet/damp=it will have to be cut out and replaced. Wet sheetrock becomes "food" for mold. Just think about your bathroom after you take a hot shower==perfect breeding ground for fungi==that"s why fresh air venting is needed>> by fan,or a open window. Good Luck.

I have AT&T "blue pages"--government--in my phone book. I looked up my city and found "City Hall" and then under that, "complaints about housing"...There's also a listing for "Neighborhood services".

So, check with your city hall first, they can direct you to the right place to make a complaint. And tub/tile cleaner won't work--you have to use a bleach/water solution AND stop the source of the moisture! AND....do you have a lease? My lease is 14 pages long and actually mentions things like this, holding payment, etc.
Good luck, sweetie and keep that baby safe!

Go to a lawyer. Have the lawyer draft up a letter stating that if the mold is not taken care of in the next couple of weeks, further action will be taken against him. That should light a fire under your land lord's feet.

yes there is a law take your rent money to your local city hall and tell them your situation.. when you do so you will soon see that your landlord will want his rent money but in order to get it he has to fix whatever you have requested especially if it is mold you and your baby can get very sick from mildew so definately go to your city hall and get that fixed!!!

Phone the lanlord and tenant board, every city has one. You have given him opportunity and he hasn't done anything. Mold is serious and can cause alot of heath problems. Or threaten to sue him.

call your county board of health and report the problem... they'll send an inspector to take a look at it... if its a health risk your landlord will be given a certain amount of time to fix it... if he doesnt he'll be fined and other penalties
