Hell yeah in Texas we even have an express lane. Eye for an eye. The cost of the state supporting a life sentence for a inmate is so much grater in the states where there is no death penalty, than those where they do have a death penalty. Guess who pays for those inmates that are serving a life sentence? The taxpayers of those states.

Funny you should ask that. I used to be, when I was in my teens and early 20's. I've since changed my mind and am definitely against it.
Why? A couple of reasons.
First, even though the death penalty has been around for a long long time, it hasn't stopped people from murdering others. If it was a deterrent, which is a big reason for it, then why hasn't the number of murders dropped to a level where just a few insane people are doing it? People are still killing for revenge, jealously, greed, anger, etc.
Capital Punishment is for society, it makes THEM feel better, "there, we killed him, that'll teach him not to kill" it does not stop people from murdering each other. Lock them up for life, with no parole...ever, that's what the punishment should be.
Second, innocent men have been put to death. If you don't believe that then I suggest you pull your head out of your a$s and read. It's a fact. Men, who HAVE NOT murdered anyone have been put to death. That fact alone should be enough for anyone to be against the death penalty.
Here in Canada we abolished the death penalty in the early 70's.
We have life sentences and (most) prisons are working on reforming & rehabilitating criminals, it's not about revenge, which, IMO, is what captial punishment is based on.
I would rather let 5 guilty men go then risk killing one innocent man.

I am for the death penalty and I feel that if someoene is on death row, they shouldn't be on there for 20 years or so because if they killed someone, that person is dead. Why should the murderer stay alive for another 20 years, still being able to eat and drink and work??. I think that their punishment should come no later than 6 months.

I used to be opposed to it because so many people were convicyted on eyewitness testimony which proved to be false. I didn't want to see innocent people punished (which also lets the guilty go free, by the way), but if there is a 13 point fingerprint match, or DNA evidence, then we know without a doubt that we have the guilty person.
I still have a problem with sentencing guidelines that are so unfair. People with money get probation and halfway houses, and people without get prison. And that 3 strikes law, can have people doing life for multiple counts of simple posession. Is that right?
No, I don't know anyone in prison or jail.

If the death penalty was a deterrent I'd certainly be for it. Most research seems to suggest that it has few positive effects on murder rates, unfortunately.
Also it's more expensive, there's a possibility of making a mistake etc..

I definitely am~! Some crimes are just not punishable with jail-time and there are those that just cannot be reformed. And if that is the case, there is no need to have them in society. SImple fact...sad, but true

No, absolutely not. Because it is completely hypocrytical. We say killing is unlawful and wrong, and then kill people for killing. If you really think about it, it makes no sense at all. Because, it is murder, just the only legalized form. And why does the US government have the right to commit murder?
