I am 8 months pregnant and my baby will be here very soon and I have mold/mildew in an inaccessible (locked utility closet) in my apartment. I have been asking my landlord to do something about it and they just spray tub and tile cleaner on the wall! The smell is starting to get unbearable and I worried about our safety. What can I do?!

First call the City health dept. Then see if they are with the appt association..(the door in office should have a sticker telling you) or ask office. Then write them a letter (keep a copy) mail it to them and they will send a copy to apt. office or they will fax to them asap they (apt) then has a few days to respond to THEM and explain why this problem has not been resolved..believe me you will get quick results . The appt assoic. will make them take care of prob. fast or else ! You cannot withhold rent because they have a way of sometimes evicting you and taking pictures ect and try to blame you for damages

Get a lawyer and file a complaint like sueing them almost. But it totaly depends on what the lease thingy says. The fumes (smell) i'm pretty sure can be harmful for your baby specialy this far in the pregnancy.

a decision to city corridor ought to help too. tell them that your landlord is working a sub usual place. they have branch - Code Enforcement that likes to hound human beings in cities and cities approximately toeing the line. Outrider

Tell your landloard your not paying rent till he fixes it.. And turn him in to the health people.. Thats not a very safe place for you baby.. If he don't fix it you should find somewhere else to move and i sure the heck wouldn't pay rent till he fixes it and tell him either he fixes it or he don't get rent from u!!!

Good luck

Call the city department of regulations. They'll send an inspector and will fine the landlord if he doesn't fix it.
