The only way to get a grant is if you are creating a non-profit, or community service program. The other grants are the standard scholarship and small business programs. And for a small business, it's mostly loans, almost no grants.

When you say free grants and loans from the government, are referring to education grants and loans?

Well, for grants, you will probably need to fill out a FAFSA form-
you can get one from your local public library. You can also fill it out on line: www.fafsa.ed.gov
FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Once this is completed, you will find out if you qualify for financial assistance.

As for loans- loans are meant to be repaid. They are usually at a lower rate than a "regular" loan from a bank or credit union.

Try these sites as well:

fastWEB (Financial Aid Search through the Web)
www.fastweb.com
This site has a number of resources including everything from a free scholarship search (fastSEARCH) and college information to career planning tips and financial aid calculators.

FinAid! The SmartStudent Guide to Financial Aid
www.finaid.org
Loans, scholarship, grants and military aid are covered as well as forms and instructions for applications. FinAid! also has calculators to assist you in finding out how much to expect to pay for your education.

If you are still in high school, check with your guidance counselor about other ways to apply for financial aid.

Also, the college or university you plan to attend has a financial aid office. Check with the staff about scholarships and awards, too.
