My 3-month-old daughter frequently suffers from gas and many times, the only way to help her feel better is to put her in the swing. However, she almost always falls asleep in the swing and now I'm concerned that I've started a bad habit of letting her nap there. Any suggestions?

My daughter would ONLY sleep in her swing...especially for kids with gastrointestinal problems, the upright position of the swing is more comfortable for them. I talked to 2 pediatricians and they both said it was absolutely fine to let her sleep there. Dont worry. When she is ready, she will give up the swing.

Hi! I had three colicky babies and if it wasn't for the baby swing then I wouldn't have survived the first few months of their lives! Babies love the rocking movement of the swing-it reminds them of the movements of being inside the womb.I see nothing wrong with letting a baby sleep in a swing as long as there is plenty of touching and cuddling with the baby at other times during the day. So let that baby swing away and take a nap, shower or clean the house-you need that time to catch up!

I do the exact same thing with my 3 month old. I very rarely let my older kids take naps in the swing when they were babies. I'm also worried that he's got a habit of only napping in there. I am going to slowly try to break him of this habit over the next 2 weeks. I will tell you though, all bad sleep habits do work themselves out. For example, people will tell you that you will never get a child out of your bed if you let him sleep there. Well, a child won't stay in their parents bed until he's 16. Anyway, try the book "Healthy sleep habits, happy child." It has helped me through any sleeping snags we run into.

Shouldn't be anything wrong with it. My daughter slept in the swing a lot when she was a baby. In fact is was the only way my husband and I got any sleep for a while. They go through phases, I was worried that she would get used to it and never sleep in her crib, but she grew out of it and started sleeping with out it in no time. She is now a normal three year old who sleeps in her own bed every night unless she is sick. Whatever works for you so that you can have some sleep or some free time to get things done around the house is fine. As long as she is straped in and safe.

No my son he had a gas and a reflux problem and the swing helped him. That was the only time he would sleep is when he was sitting up. But then his Dr. put him of lactose free formula and all of the gas and reflux went away. Then when he got too be for the swing I let him nap in his playpen and he sleeps well in is crib at night.

I don't see it as being unhealthy, but your daughter might become too fond of sleeping in her swing, rather than her crib..You might end up with her refusing to sleep in her crib....Good Luck and enjoy the 1st year, it goes by way too fast!!!!

Swings are not made to take the place of a crib or bassinet, They are to relax and entertain an infant...I most definitely wound not doze off while your daughter is in it, yes it has a restrain, but a flimsy one at best, and as she gets more upper body control she can lean over and possibly fall forward & out onto the floor.

My daughter has slept in her swing for naps since she was about 2 months old and she's now 10 months old. She loves it, and I prefer it to having her nap in her crib because it gets too hot in her room during the day.

My mom used to put me in the swing to specifically fall asleep. That's what a lot of those swings are designed for.

As long as she is comfortable and supervised, the swing is a perfectly fine place to let her nap. Sometimes you just have to do what is necessary for everybody to keep their sanity, if letting her nap in the swing makes it so that you are not stressed form dealing with an uncomfortable and overtired baby and she is happy because she is not overtired and gassy I say everybody wins, let her nap away.

My now seven year old daughter slept in her swing all the time. It's cool. She falls asleep anytime we get into the car now, the motion just knocks her out!
