i'm 12 weeks pregnant, and yeah, i had sharp cramps in my lower belly.. it wouldn't last long, just a shooting feeling.. and it does have to do with the baby moving, growing-- and your body growing to give the baby room.. some ppl are more sensitive to it then others, especially if you're thin..
at 12 weeks or so, you start to feel dull abdominal pains and pains around your pubic area.. it's more stretching and stuff.. and that's all normal too.
if you start bleeding, you may want to go to the doctor, but other than that-- it's just normal wear and tear :) the baby's getting comfortable down there!

Oh, you have my sympathies! That pain is most likely your round ligaments stretching. I sure did go thru that. Your round ligaments go around under your belly and act as a sort of "sling" supporting your uterus. When their's a baby growing, the ligaments have stretch to support the extra weight. Sometimes the pain is down even lower, in your "nether regions" as I call it. :) Yes, the pain can be very sharp and will take your breath away sometimes. However, I'm not a doctor; only a mama, so if you're still worried definitely call your ob/midwife. You say that the pain "won't go away" and I'm not sure if you mean it keeps recurring or if it's an ongoing, steady pain. If it's the former, it probably is round ligament stretching. But if it's steady pain, I'd call the doc just to be on the safe side. That's what you pay'em the big bucks for! :) Best wishes.

I have been there! I thought I was having a miscarriage, freaked, and called the doctor.
No, it's not a problem. What is happening is the ligaments in your stomach are stretching. It is more noticeable in a first pregnancy, as this is about the time you start to get a little poofy in your stomach. If you're still concerned, call your doctor, but it's more than likely nothing.
Congratulations and good luck!!!

Is this your 1st pregnancy? When it was my first I had really sharp pains in my lower belly. I would go on my hands and knees just to make the pain go away. I was told that its the uterus that is stretching. To be on the safe side, call your doctor.
Good luck and congratulations!

I had those same pains with my first baby. It scared me, so I called my doctor. He said it was ligaments stretching, but I didn't believe it. It hurt too much. Turns out, he was right. As painful as it is, it's normal. Call your doc just to be sure..

It is NOT the baby moving. You will not be able to feel the baby moving until later on. I agree with the poster that said ligament pain. That is most likely what it is.
Nothing to panic about but do remember to tell your midwife/doctor about it when you see them.

Don't worry. It's probably just your muscles and your uterus stretching and growing with the baby. I've been there. Twice! Sometimes it feels like your about to start your period when you're about that far along, and can be kinda scary. I'm sure you're fine.
Just mention your concerns to your OBGYN on your visit, and set your mind at ease.

It's not the baby moving! Yes the baby moves but it will be a while (around 16 weeks) until you feel it! Your uterus is stretching to allow for the growth of your little one. If your really concered talk to your doc. But unless you are bleeding everything is fine

Well it's just the body moving and adjusting to the growth of your uterus. If you haven't been pregant before then it's probably just that.
